Some resort to using airsoft guns as a form of firearms training. Others appreciate the game for what it is: a chance to let out some steam. However, no matter the reasons you have for playing airsoft, it’s important to choose the right gun before you start.

Airsoft Guns: Types

There are essentially 3 types of airsoft guns. Choosing one will depend on the kind of shooting style you have or want to develop.

Spring Action Guns. These are cheap so that could be a good reason for you to consider this one as a starting tool. However, you do get what you pay for. The slow firing rate could be a problem in the future though. Every time you fire, you have to pull back the spring and cock it. That’s fine if you don’t mind the lag time. However, if you’re playing airsoft for weapons training and your real life weapon is a semi automatic, this might not be the best gun to help you train your shooting skills.

Automatic Electric Guns or AEGs. The advantage of airsoft semi-automatic machine guns or rifles is that they allow you semi-automatic firing rates. That’s a whole lot faster than what you get with spring action guns. That’s why it’s a good idea to start with an AEG if you want to gain tactical training skills.

Gas Guns. These guns use compressed gas to shoot the pellets out. It’s the same mechanism you’ll find on pistols as well as sidearms. A lot of gas-powered airsoft pistols come loaded with a blow-back feature. This authentically replicates the sensation of firing a real gun, right down to the recoil. Some are even replicas of your real-life Smith & Wesson piece. While it’s not exactly the same, the experience comes across as a good simulation of the real one and can therefore provide you with valuable opportunities for firearms training. For specific types, you could go for an Airsoft Glock to make sure you get the grip and feel of your real weapon, all without having to spend too much on bullets just to practice and improve your aim. With an Airsoft Glock, you can practice your shooting skills right in your garage or backyard without breaking any gun laws or regulations.

So whether you’re playing for fun, training or both, make sure you pick out the right gun for you before you start. That way, you can make the most out of the experience, time, and expense you put into the game.
