If you’re in the market for a diamond, then it’s likely that you’re dealing with an occasion such as a wedding or an important anniversary that just simply can’t be left to chance. Shopping for a diamond, however, can be an overwhelming and dicey proposition. Why not take some of the guesswork and risk out of the equation by looking into the perfect alternative: lab diamonds?

Made Just Like Mother Nature

One thing that you should know about lab diamonds is they are diamonds, full stop. Many people confused lab diamonds with other fake synthetic crystals such as cubic zirconia, which may look like diamonds at a distance, but will never hold up to close scrutiny. Lab diamonds, however, are made in exactly the same way that natural diamonds are made: carbon atoms are exposed to intense pressure and heat over a period of time until the carbon condenses into one of the hardest and most lustrous crystals on earth. The only real difference is that lab diamonds can be made in just six to ten weeks, while natural diamonds can take a billion years or more in order to be ready.

The Ethical Choice

One other serious advantage of lab diamonds that can be a little difficult to talk about is their ethical advantage. Few like to talk about it, but at this point in time, everyone knows about the fraught ethical situation surrounding the mining of natural diamonds. All too many mining companies engage in unethical treatment of workers. This is, to put it simply, something that is just unacceptable. You want your loved one’s diamond to be a reminder of the good times in life, the joy and love they’ve experienced with you; you don’t want them to look at it and think about the unethical practices that went into its extraction from the earth. Therefore, a lab diamond pays not just financial dividends, but social and ethical ones as well.
